The number of Washington homes in some phase of foreclosure in August was up 154 percent from the same time a year ago, new data show.
RealtyTrac, a California-based authority on foreclosures, said in a report Wednesday that the state ranks 14th in the nation in foreclosures, with 6,760 properties in some phase of foreclosure last month.
That’s one in every 413 houses, the firm said. The number of homes in foreclosure is up almost 19 percent since July.
Pierce County data weren’t immediately available.
Nationally, foreclosure filings — default notices, scheduled auctions and bank repossessions — were reported on 338,836 properties in August, a 4 percent increase from the previous month but a 5 percent decrease from the same time a year ago.
Nevada, Florida, Arizona and California continue to lead the nation in foreclosure filings.
