SeaTac's Alaska Airlines was the best performing major domestic airline last year in on-time arrivals, an airline performance tracking company said Monday.
Alaska’s flights were on time 87.36 percent of the time in 2010, said Portland’s Flightstats.com . The nation’s major airlines average performance was 79.18 percent on time.
“Our on-time performance during the past 13 months represents the best record in our company’s 78-year history,” said Ben Minicucci, Alaska Airlines’ chief operating officer. “This award pays tribute to our dedicated employees and their unwavering focus on safety and customer service.”
The airline developed a minute-by-minute schedule for aircraft operations while they are at the gate to ensure that planes are relaunched on-time. That new operation includes a countdown clock to let employees know just how much time is remaining to finish their between-flights tasks.
