The director of operations for Centralia's TransAlta coal-fired facility, has accepted the same position with the company's Sundance coal plant near Edmonton, Alberta.
The company announced Lou Florence’s departure to employees Tuesday and e-mailed city and county leaders with the news Wednesday. Florence, who has been with TransAlta since 2002 when he started as a plant operator, will be replaced by Bob Nelson, the former chief of operations at the defunct mine.
Florence became the director of Centralia operations after the mine shut down in November 2006.
Florence’s last day at the Centralia plant was Wednesday, and he turned over operational control to Nelson immediately.TransAlta spokesperson Angela Mallow said had Florence played a “key role” in testifying on behalf of TransAlta during recent legislation that ensured the plant would fully make the transition away from coal no later than 2025.
Florence starts at the Sundance coal plant April 26.
