Donors are being sought to help provide Wounded Warrior and Gold Star families with Christmas and Hanukkah presents for their children, as well as a grocery gift card or prepaid Visa gift card to cover holiday dinner and trimmings.
The Adopt a Wounded Warrior/Gold Star Family Holiday Program was launched by Operation Ward 57 in 2013 to help wounded, ill and injured military families during the holidays. This year it was expanded to include post 9/11 Gold Star Families.
After prospective sponsors are vetted and matched with a family, the program provides them with the age and gender of each child in the family and a brief wish list. The sponsor then provides a minimum of one gift for each child in the amount of $20-$50 and a $50-$100 food gift card for a holiday meal. Gifts for the parents are optional.
The deadline to adopt a family is Dec. 1, and all gifts must be delivered or shipped by Dec. 15.
