Lacey Council hopeful steps up

LACEY - A day after Deputy Mayor Nancy Peterson said she won't seek another term, state employee Russ Olsen announced Thursday that he will run for her Lacey City Council seat.

Olsen lined up Hillary Hunt as his campaign manager. Hunt, a Democratic activist, has helped her father, Democratic Rep. Sam Hunt of Olympia, with campaigns.

Olsen works for the Department of Ecology as an environmental specialist, has a master's degree in public administration from Seattle University and earned a degree in political science from Saint Martin's University in Lacey.

Hillary Hunt issued a news release Thursday that declared Olsen's intent to run.

Olsen did not spell out any campaign positions but noted that his background includes work as the general manager for the Capital City Golf Course, as a community-service officer for Lacey police, and more recently as the operations director for the Capital City Food and Wine Festival at Saint Martin's. Olsen and his wife, Rebecca, previously served on the board of the alumni association of the food and wine festival.
