Bomb squad responds to box at theater

Regal Martin Village 16 theater was evacuated for more than an hour Monday night after an employee grew suspicious of a cardboard box found unattended in the lobby area.

Lacey police responded to the scene shortly after 7:25 p.m. and called in the Washington State Patrol bomb squad, Lt. Phil Comstock said. A technician determined the box was filled with miscellaneous items and was not a threat, he said.

Comstock said police have seen video of a man leaving behind the box, but it’s unclear if he just forgot it or intended to cause problems.

“With the information we currently have, it would not appear to be criminal,” Comstock said.

The theater was reopened shortly after 9 p.m.

Regal spokesman Russ Nunley said moviegoers were either given a refund or a free ticket to a movie because of the disruption.
