FORT LEWIS: Post set to honor fallen soldiers Monday

Fort Lewis will honor soldiers killed at war during a ceremony at 11:30 a.m. Monday at the Fort Lewis Cemetery.

Brig. Gen. Jeff W. Mathis, the acting commanding general at Fort Lewis, will be the guest speaker. The I Corps Band will provide music.

Mathis and Chaplain Charles J. Atanasio will place a wreath on the post’s marker honoring all unknown U.S. soldiers who have been killed in wars. Soldiers from Battery A, 5th Battalion, 3rd Field Artillery Regiment will fire a 21-gun salute, followed by the playing of Taps.

Fort Lewis soldiers also will attend a Memorial Day observance at 2 p.m. Monday at Mills & Mills Memorial Park, 5725 Littlerock Road S.W., Tumwater.
