Counterfeit $20, $50 and $100 bills have turned up in Thurston County in the past few days, according to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Department.
A customer paid for gas at a Shell station at 19704 Old Highway 99 S.W. in Rochester with a $100 bill at 9 a.m. Friday, according to Lt. Chris Mealy. The clerk discovered the bill was counterfeit after the suspect had left and had no description for police.
Also Friday, a man reported that a suspect paid for items at his garage sale with a fake $20 bill. The incident occurred in the 3200 block of Friendly Grove Road Northeast. The suspect was described as white, 5 foot 8, thin, with bad teeth. He was accompanied by a short Hispanic female, according to the police report. They were driving a red Dodge Avenger.
The third incident was reported Sunday but occurred Wednesday, Mealy said. A customer paid for gas with three $20 bills and for items with a $50 bill at Jim’s Market and Gas, 9335 Martin Way.
