WALLA WALLA – A rumor that surfaces under different cover every so often has reared its head once again. Word on the street has it that the city of Walla Walla, facing a downturn in the market for recyclables, now hauls all that material from your curbside bin to an ignominious grave at the landfill.
“I’m not sure where these rumors come from,” said Sanitation Division Supervisor Rick Dudgeon.
“We deliver all our recycling to Walla Walla Recycling, and they process and ship the recycling for us,” he said. “We do take glass to the landfill, but it doesn’t go in the landfill. It is stockpiled there. They crush it up and use it for roadbed.”
