Two Yelm teens hurt in collision with truck

Two 16-year-old girls were badly hurt Tuesday morning when the car they were in crossed the center line and collided head-on with a truck in Yelm, the Washington State Patrol reported.

The crash occurred about 7 a.m. on Morris Road just south of 110th Avenue.

Troopers said initial indications are that Skye Calhoun was driving too fast for the wet road conditions when her northbound 1985 Oldsmobile Cutlass drifted into the southbound lane of Morris Road and collided with a 2003 GMC box-style truck.

Calhoun and her passenger, Alexandria Bachmeier, both of Yelm, were airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment of their injuries.

Calhoun was listed in critical condition Tuesday afternoon while Bachmeier was listed in serious condition, according to a Harborview spokesman.

The driver of the GMC, 43-year-old Matthew L. Benson of McKenna, wasn’t injured.
