The twice annual South Sound beach cleanup conducted by Pacific Coast Shellfish Growers Association members and volunteers is set for Thursday.
Crews in search of marine debris will canvass about 100 miles of beaches in Eld, Budd, Totten, Henderson, Hammersley, Case and Carr inlets, as well as Squaxin, Harstine, Hope and Anderson islands.
In the previous nine cleanups, which are scheduled each spring and fall, crews have collected about 594 cubic yards of litter, including Styrofoam, tires and a small percentage of debris from aquaculture operations, organizers say.
