The environmental group Olympia Climate Action plans a recognition ceremony for the highest tide of the year at 8:15 a.m. Jan. 4 at the "kissing couple" statue at Fourth Avenue and Water Street in downtown Olympia.
The year’s highest tide, of more than 17 feet, will occur at 8:37 a.m., and ceremony organizers say it will give attendees an idea of the potential effects of sea-level rise on downtown Olympia. The ceremony is expected to last about 30 minutes.
The group also will co-sponsor a public event drawing attention to climate change from 7 to 9 p.m. Jan. 11 at The Olympia Center, 222 Columbia St. N.W. For more information about either event, contact Olympia Climate Action Chairwoman Barb Scavezze at 360-878-9901 or email@example.com.
