Religion teacher accused of sex with student

Auburn police say a religion teacher at a private Christian-based high school has been arrested for investigation of having sex with a female teenage student.

Police Sgt. David Colglazier said 49-year-old Scott Spies was arrested last week and booked into jail for investigation of molestation, indecent liberties and sex with a minor. Officials at the Auburn Adventist Academy said Spies has since been fired.

Colglazier said the relationship allegedly started in February 2009, when the girl was 15 years old, and became sexual last fall. School principal Marvin Mitchell said he spoke with Spies and that the teacher was remorseful.
