CHEHALIS: Minimum sentence in tot's ORV death

A Centralia man responsible for the death of a 2-year-old boy in an off-road vehicle accident was sentenced in Lewis County Superior Court to 21 months in prison.

The term handed down Wednesday to 42-year-old Ben Jones was the minimum under his agreement to plead guilty to reckless endangerment and drunken driving charges.

KITI reported that the courtroom was packed with supporters, even the parents of Bo Workman, who asked Judge Jim Lawler for a lenient sentence.

When Jones spoke, he took responsibility for the crash. He was giving four children a ride in an SUV in January 2009 when it overturned in a creek where Bo drowned.

With early release, Jones could be out of prison in about a year.
