Three people charged with helping either cop killer Maurice Clemmons or his alleged getaway driver will go on trial together May 17, a Pierce County judge decided Tuesday.
Superior Court Judge Stephanie Arend was not persuaded by defense arguments that Rickey Hinton, Latanya Clemmons and Quiana Williams deserved separate trials.
Defense attorneys argued the cases against the three were vastly different and that trying them together would deny their clients their rights to a fair trial.
Prosecutors disagreed, saying a single jury would be able to discern the differences between the defendants and issue a fair verdict on each case.
The defendants have pleaded not guilty to multiple counts of rendering criminal assistance.
