One person died and four others were hurt in a three-car collision at the intersection of Meridian and Mullen roads Thursday night east of Lacey.
A black Saturn sedan headed north on Meridian Road turned left into the path of a southbound blue Dodge Ram pickup at 7 p.m., said Washington State Patrol Sgt. T.O. Martin.
The Saturn, driven by Alex Lord, 17, of Olympia, came to rest on the southwest corner of the intersection. The front-seat passenger, Zachary A. Reid, 16, of Ashburn, Va., was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he died. The driver and the other passenger, Kevin Andrews, 19, also of Ashburn, were taken to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia.
The pickup, carrying two adults and two children, struck the right side of a sheriff’s patrol car stopped at a stop sign on Mullen Road. Neither the driver of the pickup, Rosemary Ayers, 51, of Lacey, nor the deputy, Carlos Benavidez Jr., 37, was seriously injured, although Ayers and one of the children were transported to Providence St. Peter Hospital..
