Someone deliberately set a fire Sunday that destroyed a home on the eastern shore of Lake Tapps, Pierce County sheriff's detectives said.

A neighbor called 911 just before 6 a.m. to report smoke coming from the home in the 4200 block of 218th Avenue East. Crews from Eastside Fire & Rescue, Riverside Fire & Rescue, Valley Regional Fire, Milton Fire and Enumclaw Fire helped battle the two-alarm blaze.

Investigators believe the fire started in the home’s daylight basement, a news release stated. The house was considered a total loss.

“This is a targeted situation,” sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said Monday.

The windows of a vehicle parked at the home also were broken out, according to a friend of the woman who lived there.

No arrests have been reported.

The woman who lives in the home was out of town for the weekend, getting married and celebrating with her new husband and two young children.

Detectives have identified more than one person they’d like to question about the fire, Troyer said.

Tacoma-Pierce County Crime Stoppers is offering up to $1,000 for information leading to someone being arrested and charged in the case. Tipsters may remain anonymous.

Reach Crime Stoppers at 253-591-5959.
