Kitsap County Public Works reports 31 stormwater grates have been taken in the past month, mostly in remote areas.
The sheriff’s office places cones or markers around the holes until the grates can be replaced.
The Kitsap Sun reports each cover weighs about 70 pounds and costs $82.
Crews are bolting down the new covers to make them harder to steal.
