A woman was critically injured Thursday when she apparently suffered a medical emergency and crashed her car into a tree on Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Spanaway.
Paramedics took the woman, described as in her mid-50s, to Tacoma General Hospital with life-threatening injuries, Washington State Patrol spokesman J.J. Gundermann said.
The crash occurred about noon when the woman apparently suffered a medical emergency while driving on 180th Street, troopers said. Witnesses said the woman’s car accelerated through a stop sign and hit the center concrete median, Gundermann said.
The car spun into the southbound lanes of state Route 7, went through a ditch, under a chain-link fence and onto base property before hitting a tree, Gundermann said.
