TACOMA - Two steel beams from the wreckage of the Twin Towers traveled down Interstate 5 on Sunday.
The mangled, rusted 5,000-pound beams passed through Pierce County on a cross-country trek from New York to their new home in Kitsap County.
It was an event that drew hundreds to stand on bridge overpasses, unfurling flags and saluting, as the motorcade passed by.
Roughly 800 motorcycles from the Patriot Guard escorted the beams, which were wrapped in American flags and carried on the flatbed of a blue semi-truck.

A permanent home has not been designated for the beams. The Kitsap 9/11 Memorial Committee will store them until there is a spot to display them.
