Tacoma police are seeking the public's help finding the man who sexually assaulted a woman last month on the East Side.

The woman, 26, told police she didn’t know her attacker. The department released information about the attack and a composite sketch of the man on Wednesday.

The woman said she left her home for the walk about 6 a.m. July 20 and was going north on McKinley Avenue in the 3500 block when a man pulled up in a car and spoke to her.

The woman told him to leave her alone and continued walking. The man stopped his car, approached the woman from behind and pulled her into his vehicle, police said. He drove a short distance to a parking lot, sexually assaulted the woman and then drove off after releasing her.

The attacker was described as a thin black man in his early 20s, 5 feet 6 to 5 feet 9. He was driving a white, early 1990s sedan in good condition. The car might be a Ford Escort or similar vehicle, police said.

Anyone with information about the attacker’s identity is asked to call Tacoma-Pierce County Crime Stoppers at 253-591-5959. Crime Stoppers is offering up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest and charges filed in the case. Tipsters can remain anonymous.
