Police seek Jeep linked to hit-and-run

Tacoma police are looking for a white Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo believed involved in a fatal hit-and-run accident Saturday.

The Jeep hit Darnell Chocklon, 30, of Covington, about 2 a.m. at North Ninth Street and South Ainsworth Avenue. Chocklon died at the scene and the vehicle fled.

Police said the Jeep was white with black trim and manufactured between 1993 and 1995. The license number is unknown.

The vehicle likely has damage along the passenger side from the bumper to the rear quarter panel, according to police. The passenger-side window was broken in the crash, and orange paint from Chocklon’s motorcycle might have been transferred to the Jeep.

Police spotted Chocklon riding without a helmet and driving recklessly moments before the wreck. Officer tried to pull him over but he fled and was hit by the Jeep, police said.

Tacoma-Pierce County Crime Stoppers is offering up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest and charges filed in the case. Tipsters can remain anonymous. Reach Crime Stoppers at 253-591-5959.
