Man shot by police dies from injuries

A 23-year-old man shot Tuesday by a Federal Way police officer has died of his wounds.

The man, whose last known address was in Tacoma, died late Tuesday at Harborview Medical Center. The King County Medical Examiner’s Office has not released his name.

The officer who shot the man is on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure after a shooting involving an officer. The officer has been with the department for seven years.

The shooting occurred shortly after 5 p.m. Tuesday after a man called police to say he’d seen his stolen pickup truck parked at the Walmart store at 34500 16th Ave. S. Officers found the unoccupied truck in the parking lot and watched the pickup until a man climbed inside, police said.

The officers tried to stop the truck, but the driver refused to pull over. The officers were able to stop the truck at South 360th Street and 22nd Avenue South, police reported.

An officer approached the driver, who then drove the truck at the officer, police said. The officer fired his weapon several times, wound ing the man. The officer was not hurt.
