At the World War II Memorial on the Capitol Campus in Olympia, the construction fence is down and the replacement tiles are ready for viewing.
There are more than 2,900 tiles surrounding the memorial. A database search on the General Administration website allows people to view the tiles’ inscription, and print out a map that gives the tile location within a few feet.
Go to the World War II Memorial page at www. ga.wa.gov/Visitor/ww2/ ww2.htm, click on Search for name on granite tiles, type in a name or key word, and all tiles with that name or key word are listed.
The replacement of the tiles was part of a needed repair and improvement project, which included slightly sculpting the surrounding ground to channel water away from the tiles and toward several new and improved area drains.
