A 22-year-old man killed by Vancouver police was a veteran who served one year in Iraq, the Oregon Army National Guard confirmed Wednesday.
Capt. Stephen Bomar says Nikkolas Lookabill deployed in May 2009, returning this year.
Guard officials confirmed Lookabill’s military status after he was identified by Vancouver police.
Police say three officers fired at the Vancouver man early Tuesday after they responded to a report of a man with a gun. Police spokeswoman Kim Kapp said the man was “engaging in threatening activity” and refusing police commands when he was shot.
