Smoke shop loses $33,000 in burglary

Someone burglarized a cigarette shop in the 7000 block of Martin Way in the Tanglewilde neighborhood overnight Wednesday, stealing more than $33,000 worth of cigarettes, smoking accessories and cash, according to the Thurston County Sheriff's Office.

The theft at Smoke & Beer, at 7243 Martin Way, was reported to sheriff’s deputies at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The thief or thieves disabled and destroyed the store’s video surveillance system, according to Thurston County chief criminal deputy James Chamberlain. Damage to the surveillance system and a broken door total an additional $5,000, Chamberlain said.
