Bellevue company faces asbestos fine

The owner of five King County apartment complexes is facing a $165,400 fine for violating state asbestos regulations.

The violations include charges that the company used untrained and uncertified workers to clean up contaminated ceiling material from 43 apartments last December.

State regulators have cited and fined the Longwell Co. of Bellevue. The state Department of Labor and Industries said the real estate company has been “willfully negligent and indifferent” to state regulations for the safe clean up of asbestos from popcorn ceilings.
