A 24-year-old man who was shot Wednesday after spraying Renton police with a garden hose was armed with a knife and a pellet gun, according to Kent police, who are investigating .
An officer who has worked in Renton for seven years fired at the suspect three times as he tried to flee from the backyard of his home in the 2100 block of Northeast 23rd Street.
Two bullets struck the man, who was treated at a hospital and is expected to survive.
Police say the suspect was trying to avoid arrest after assaulting a bus driver in Kirkland on Sept. 11 and threatening a police officer there by brandishing a firearm.

The suspect’s pellet gun was altered to look like a semi-automatic handgun, Kent police said.
