A human skull was discovered Wednesday on Joint Base Lewis McChord, officials said.
A civilian walking in the wilderness training area just outside the East Gate stumbled across the skull about 1 p.m.
“They don’t know the origin yet so they haven’t been able to determine whether or not it’s a crime scene,” base spokeswoman Catherine Caruso said.
The base’s investigations unit will test the skull and try to determine age, race and gender of the person.
