At least 35 people awake to find tires slashed on vehicles

Thirty-five East Bremerton residents awoke Sunday morning to find the tires on their vehicles slashed. The number of victims was expected to grow.

Many of the reports came from neighborhoods outside city limits. Details of reports of more tire slashings within the city of Bremerton were not made available late Sunday by police there.

Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office spokesman deputy Scott Wilson said deputies began responding to calls from alarmed residents around 7:30 a.m. Sunday. As the day wore on, authorities found many more incidents of tire slashings.

The slashers’ mode of operation was to dig their cutting instruments into the vehicles’ sidewalls. Sometimes they flattened all four tires on a single vehicle.
