3 people arrested after cafe at zoo is robbed

Tacoma police arrested two men and a woman Monday night after the cafe on the Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium grounds was robbed after Zoolights closed.

The robbers – one of them armed – entered the Point Defiance Cafe, which had closed, about 9:40 p.m. and confronted the manager, police spokesman Mark Fulghum said.

They grabbed the day’s receipts and took off in a car.

Zoo staff members gave police a description of the car and a license. Officers stopped the car on North Vassault Street and arrested its three occupants without incident, Fulghum said.

The three – who were in their late teens or early 20s – were booked into the Pierce County Jail on first-degree robbery charges.

Zoolights, the zoo’s annual holiday display, closed at 9 p.m.
