Tumwater man accidentally shoots himself in hand, blames dog

A 24-year-old Tumwater man was transported to Providence St. Peter Hospital on Friday after shooting himself in the hand, according to Tumwater police.

Officers responded to a call of an accidental discharge of a firearm at the Montair at Somerset Hill apartments in the 1600 block of Sunflower Lane Southwest about 1:50 p.m., according to a news release and dispatch reports.

The man told police he was unloading his handgun, a Glock 19, when he was startled by his dog and accidentally fired one round through his left hand, Tumwater Lt. Carlos Quiles said. The bullet was found lodged in an exterior wall of the residence.

No one else was injured. The man’s injury is not believed to be life threatening, Quiles said.
