A medicinal marijuana patient who lives in the 4600 block of Gallup Drive Southeast reported Saturday that someone had stolen nine marijuana plants from a room attached to his property, according to the Thurston County Sheriff's Office.
The man who reported the burglary about 6 a.m. Saturday was a valid medicinal marijuana patient and presented deputies with his legal paperwork when they responded to his burglary call, Thurston County sheriff’s Sgt. Cheryl Stines said.
Stines said the man’s call about someone stealing his marijuana is the first time she knows of that deputies have responded to a report of a theft from a medicinal marijuana patient.
The marijuana plants are valued at about $9,000, she said.
The man reported that the burglar or burglars gained entry to his growing room by breaking in through the doorway.
Anyone with information about the theft is encouraged to call the sheriff’s detectives division at 360-786-5530, or to leave an anonymous tip at Thurston County Crime Stoppers at 360-493-2222.
