Man pleads guilty to murdering mother

A Tacoma man pleaded guilty Thursday to murdering his 65-year-old mother and is expected to be sentenced to life in prison without parole under the state's "three strikes, you’re out" law.

Thomas Al Bienville, 40, pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree murder in the spring 2010 death of Laurinda Hughes. He’s to be sentenced March 30.

Hughes was found shot to death in the crawl space of her home in the 1700 block of East 64th Street on April 28. Bienville and his wife, Austa Marie Bienville, were identified as suspects and later arrested in Miami.

Austa Bienville, 32, has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and first-degree robbery in the case. She remains jailed while awaiting a June trial date.

Bienville already has two strikes in an attempted second-degree rape conviction and a second-degree assault conviction. The second-degree murder conviction will be his third.
