The 13th biannual beach cleanup in South Sound organized by commercial shellfish growers is set for Thursday.
Pacific Coast Shellfish Growers Association fall and spring efforts have removed about 72 dump truck loads of debris, including 1,000 tires, from area beaches in the past six years.
The targeted cleanup sites are Henderson, Budd, Eld, Totten, Skookum, Hammersley, Carr and Case inlets, Oakland Bay, Squaxin and Harstine islands and parts of Hood Canal.
Participants include 14 shellfish farms, the Squaxin, Skokomish and Nisqually tribes, Pacific Shellfish Institute, state Department of Natural Resources, Surf Riders Foundation and the Standup Paddlers Cleanup group.
