Pierce County prosecutors have charged a 30-yearold woman in connection with the videotaped torture of a young man who later was killed.
Prosecutors allege Aleeya Dawn Freeman lured the victim, known as “Cool Aid” but yet to be identified, to a Lakewood apartment where he was bound and gagged with duct tape and then tortured with a knife sometime last year.
Freeman pleaded not guilty Thursday to first-degree murder. She was ordered held in the Pierce County Jail in lieu of $2 million bail .
Freeman is the third person to be charged in the case, which came to light in February after a disk containing a 19-minute video of the torture was dropped off at the Spokane Police Department.
Last month, prosecutors charged Michael Crosman, 25, and Maalo Semu Samaota, 30, with aggravated first-degree murder.
Crosman pleaded not guilty and was ordered held in lieu of $5 million bail. U.S. marshals arrested Samaota in the Portland area Friday. He is expected to be extradited to Tacoma soon.
Investigators determined the videotaped attack occurred in an apartment near the Starlight Drive-In Theatre at 84th Street and South Tacoma Way. Crosman and Samaota were living in the apartment at the time of the attack, which is believed to have occurred in July.
Crosman has told detectives the slaying was payback for the victim stealing a vehicle full of drugs. Crosman is believed to have recorded the crime while Samaota wielded a knife and taunted the victim.
A witness told detectives Freeman had lured the victim to the apartment, according to charging documents filed Thursday.
Freeman told detectives she had been contacted by Samaota, who asked her to get a man known as “Cool Aid” to the apartment under the pretense that she wanted to buy drugs from him.
“Freeman acknowledged that she knew ‘Cool Aid’ would be physically harmed,” charging documents state.
The victim in the video has not been identified, but investigators believe his remains were found March 10 near Harts Lake in eastern Pierce County. Testing on the remains is being done.
