Road rage shooting brings 15-year term

A 35-year-old man convicted of shooting a 2-year-old girl during a road rage incident last year in Tacoma was sentenced Friday to 15 years, nine months in prison.

Pierce County Superior Court Judge Ronald Culpepper handed down the sentence for Sauni “Johnny” Misi.

Misi pleaded guilty this month to first-degree assault, drive-by shooting and two counts of third-degree assault in connection with the Jan. 17, 2010, incident.

Prosecutors said Misi fired at a car carrying the girl and her parents after he and the girl’s father exchanged gestures and drove aggressively in the 8400 block of Pacific Avenue.

The girl, who was in a car seat in the back, suffered an injury to her thigh.

Misi could have been sentenced to up to 19 years, three months under the standard sentencing range.
