Pierce County woman crowned the 2011 Miss Washington

A Pierce County woman has been crowned the 2011 Miss Washington.

Brittney Henry, 24, of Edgewood, won the scholarship pageant Saturday night and will represent the state in January at the Miss America 2012 pageant in Las Vegas.

Henry’s talent was the fiddle, and she played an Irish medley, state pageant organizer Peggy Miller said in an interview Monday. Henry’s platform was “promoting higher education for low-income families.”

Her Miss Washington title earned her a $10,000 scholarship, Miller said.

Henry graduated in 2009 from California State University, Sacramento, with a double major in intercultural/international communication and organizational communication. She graduated from Puyallup High School in 2005.

Runners-up were fourth, Daniela Ferrell, Miss Auburn; third, Genay Tucker, Miss Spokane; second, Kara Jo Morris, Miss Lewis County; and first, Nicole Erhardt, Miss Tahoma.
