Olympia police seek male suspect after Martin Way store robbed, employee assaulted

Olympia police are looking for a male suspect who assaulted a convenience store employee to steal lottery tickets and cigarettes.

The suspect is described by police as 6-foot-5. He was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black mask, blue jeans and flip flops, Lt. Paul Lower said Tuesday.

About 5:30 p.m. Monday, police were dispatched to the report of a robbery at the 7-Eleven in the 3500 block of Martin Way East.

A 51-year-old store employee was cleaning in an aisle when he saw the man behind the counter, stealing cigarettes and lottery tickets.

The employee confronted the man, but the robbery suspect punched him before fleeing the store. A witness saw the struggle behind the counter and called 911.

A police dog tracked the suspect west on Martin Way, but was unable to locate the suspect.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Olympia police at 360-753-8300.
