Puyallup motorcyclist killed in crash identified

A motorcyclist killed Wednesday after hitting a pickup truck in Puyallup was identified Thursday as a 39-year-old Edgewood man.

Timothy January was traveling east on East Pioneer Avenue just after 5 p.m. when he struck a pickup truck as it turned onto 21st Street Southeast, police said. Witnesses told police January was driving recklessly, above the 35 mph speed limit before the crash, Capt. Scott Engle said.

January was thrown from the bike, which slid under the truck. He was pronounced dead at Tacoma General Hospital.

January was wearing a helmet but not one approved by the state Department of Transportation, Engle said.
