Olympia has declared July as “Smart Irrigation Month,” and the city’s Water Conservation Program is offering rebates to residential and commercial water customers.
The city reports that lawns and landscapes are often over-watered by up to 30 percent. Residential water customers can receive a $200 rebate for installing a “smart controller” or a rain sensor for in-ground irrigation systems. These devices help conserve water and save money by adjusting watering times based on weather conditions, according to the city. The city is also offering a free hose watering timer to customers.
Commercial water customers may be eligible for a $2,500 rebate by upgrading irrigation systems with spray nozzle retrofits and “smart controller” upgrades, the city reports. More information about incentives and rebates can be found online at olympiawa.gov/waterwise or by calling 360-753-8271.
