From 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, The Evergreen State College will host an Active Shooter Response Training, involving multiple law enforcement and fire agencies from around Thurston County. This will take place on campus, according to a press release from the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office.
The training is a joint effort between the college’s police services and the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office. It will focus on the collaboration necessary to effectively respond to an active shooter incident. The college will also test its own emergency response protocols and communications channels.
The training is not expected to affect traffic around the campus, but neighbors should be aware that police and fire vehicles and personnel will be on campus.
The event is part of a larger, county-wide effort to increase preparedness. The effort will include additional training opportunities for first responders and two informational forums for families and community members.
