Vandals damage building in Yelm

The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a suspect or suspects who burglarized and vandalized a building in the Yelm area.

Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched Saturday morning to the Clearwood Community Communications building in the 18900 block of Blue Hills Drive Southeast following a report that the building had been broken into and vandalized.

The reporting party was Fair Point Communications, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release.

The front door was kicked in and had been spray painted with an “A” inside a red circle. The word “tag” also was spray painted on a wall, and several electronic boxes, an alarm security pad and alarm siren were smashed. Damages are estimated at $70,000.

The damage also cut phone and Internet service to about 1,000-1,200 homes in the area. Repairs will take two to three days.
