A 60-year-old Roy man died at the scene of a crash Monday morning on atate Route 510 at Thornton Road Southeast in Thurston County, according a press release from the Washington State Patrol.
The man’s name was not released, pending notification of his family. He was driving a 1986 Honda Civic.
The crash occurred about 9:45 a.m. and closed SR-510 in both directions between Mullen Road Southeast and Reservation Road Southeast for several hours.
“Causing driver was eastbound on SR-510 approaching Thornton Road, lost control, drove into the westbound lane, and struck the victim driver head-on,” said Washington State Patrol Trooper Guy Gill. “The cause is still under investigation.”
According to the release: The driver who crossed the centerline is a 63-year-old Lacey woman; she was driving a 2002 Toyota Camry. She suffered injuries and was transported to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts, and their vehicles were totaled. Drugs and alcohol were not factors in the crash.
