Madeline Poultridge of Avanti High School was named Capital Lakefair queen for 2015 at a coronation ceremony Saturday night at the Red Lion Hotel Olympia.
Poultridge and her court will represent Capital Lakefair at parades and other events statewide, according to a news release from Capital Lakefair.
The nine candidates were judged on a 500-word essay, personality, appearance, speaking ability, poise, confidence, overall reaction to pressure, maturity and punctuality, according to the release.
The other Lakefair court candidates were Cassie Andresen, Tumwater High School; Claire Berry, Black Hills High School; Emily Grahn, River Ridge High School; Kathalina R. Hoffman, Northwest Christian High School; Julia Holder, Olympia High School; Clarissa Jenkins, North Thurston High School; Olivia Wittenberg, Capital High School; and Judie Wang, Timberline High School.
Each participant will receive a $500 scholarship, and the five members of the 2015 Royalty Court will get an additional $2,500 scholarship. Poultridge receives an extra $4,500 as queen. The scholarship money can be used within the next five years toward any type of higher education, the organization said.
Capital Lakefair is set for July 15-19. This year’s theme is “Fabulous Family Fun.”
