Community Youth Services names new boss

Community Youth Services has announced that Scott Hanauer will take over as chief executive effective Aug. 1. The current executive, Charles Shelan, is retiring after 35 years.

Community Youth Services, founded in 1970, has grown into an $8.2 million nonprofit with more than 100 employees. It is considered one of the largest and most comprehensive social service agencies in Southwest Washington, serving more than 4,000 youths and families annually, according to a news release.

Hanauer was hired in 2004 as the clinical director, providing direct supervision for six comprehensive and therapeutic programs using trauma-informed care, evidence-based practices and positive youth development models.

“His extensive experience will make this a seamless transition, in my opinion,” Shelan said.

CYS plans an open house for the community to meet Hanauer. It will be from 3-5 p.m., Aug. 14, at the agency’s main office, 711 State Ave. NE, Olympia.
