South Bay Fire Department in north Olympia will honor state’s volunteer of the year

South Bay Fire Department volunteer Adam Walker has received the Washington State Firefighters Association 2015 Volunteer Firefighter of the Year award.

Walker was honored at the association’s annual conference this month in Wenatchee. He also was recognized last January as the district’s Firefighter of the Year.

Walker is a three-year firefighter-EMT and acting shift officer who has “demonstrated key leadership of his shift team and provided excellent customer service in the delivery of emergency medical and firefighting,” according to an announcement from the department.

The board of fire commissioners will honor Walker during their next meeting at 5:30 p.m. July 7 at the fire station at 3506 Schinke Road NE, Olympia.
