The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag fire warning for northern Thurston County.
Meteorologist Johnny Burg said the warning will be in effect until 5 p.m. Sunday, and was prompted by hot, dry weather.
“It’s been really, really dry lately which creates a lot of fuel for fires,” Burg said. “Anybody playing with fireworks or tossing a cigarette out a window could easily cause a fire.”
Red Flag warnings inform area firefighting and land management agencies that conditions are ideal for wildland fire combustion, and rapid spread. To the public, a Red Flag warning means high fire danger with increased probability of a quickly spreading vegetation fire in the area within 24 hours.
