Much of the Puget Sound region, including Olympia, Tacoma and Everett, is under a severe weather watch, as the National Weather Service issued a wind advisory for the area early Monday morning.
Heavy winds, power outages in western WA
The advisory warns of 20 to 30 mph winds to the south, along with gusts reaching speeds of 45 miles per hour. By the late morning or early afternoon, the winds are expected to turn toward the west or southwest.

Officials warned that the winds could cause tree branches to fall and that power outages could occur. You can check Puget Sound Energy’s power outage map for updated information on power outages and restoration times in your area. As of 10:15 a.m. Monday, PSE has tracked 156 active power outages across the state, including 50 in Thurston County and three in Pierce County.
NWS advised residents of the affected areas to secure any outdoor objects. Strong winds are expected to last until 2 p.m. Monday.

Other severe weather in WA
The wind advisory comes at a time when much of Washington is also under a weather advisory from NWS. Just hours after the wind advisory was issued, NWS also issued a flood advisory that covers parts of King, Snohomish, Pierce and Thurston counties. The advisory is in place until 11 a.m. Monday.
NWS also issued a winter storm warning across much of the Cascade Mountain region Monday morning, as well as a high wind warning in northwest Washington.
