A 23-year-old woman wanted for allegedly stabbing her mother in Rochester was arrested Sunday evening after an hours-long search found her trying to flee an abandoned home, according to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office.
Amanda Lee Bassell was taken into custody on suspicion of first-degree attempted murder.
Sheriff’s Lt. Greg Elwin said about five deputies, a K-9 unit and State Patrol aviation searched for Bassell near the crime scene in the 18700 block of Elderberry Street Southwest.
Bassell’s mother, 42, said she awoke to being stabbed by her daughter about 4:30 a.m. Sunday. After being stabbed in and around the neck multiple times, she was able to fend off the attack and flee the bedroom, only to collapse in another part of the house. The victim, whose name was not released, was in stable condition at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia.
Bassell has a criminal history and was recently released from the state Department of Corrections. She also has strong ties to Lewis County and reportedly has gang connections, according to the Thurston County’s Sheriff’s Office.
